Carlos M. Lopez - President
Mr. Lopez has had a distinguished career in a wide range of entrepreneurial endeavors in the Greater Hartford area for over 35 years. He currently manages an entire city block, 673-711 Park Street in Hartford. This assemblage consists of ten different small businesses providing a wide range of goods and services. The anchor tenant on this block is Luis of Hartford, an active home furnishings business that Mr. Lopez has owned and operated for over 25 years. Between 1987 and 1990, Mr. Lopez owned and managed Latino 1230, Hartford's only Spanish speaking radio station. Latino 1230 operated 24 hours a day with a combination of ethnic music, news and commentary broadcasting to the region’s large Hispanic community. In 1990, in conjunction with Broad Park Development, Mr. Lopez developed El Mercado, a nationally recognized Latin style, eight-store shopping center that includes a grocery, travel agency, restaurants, jewelry retailer and wire service. Mr. Lopez has increased occupancy from 45% to 100% in a short period of time. Mr. Lopez has direct day-to-day involvement with the operation of El Mercado. Mr. Lopez's commitment to the City of Hartford was highlighted with his donation of a parcel of land on Ward Street in 1994 for use as the current Police Substation serving the Frog Hollow section of the City. In 1997 Mr. Lopez founded Connecticut Parking Services (CPS) with a focus on delivering superior parking management services. He has created an organization that strives to provide the highest level of customer service for both the property owners that CPS represents and its parking clientele. CPS is a local company that offers an experienced management team, proven operating procedures and a commitment to excellence. CPS currently maintains a parking staff of eleven full and part-time employees. Mr. Lopez devotes over fifty percent (50%) of his time to general management and administration of CPS. He is actively involved in all phases of parking management, including daily operations, personnel, marketing, accounting and maintenance. Mr. Lopez maintains numerous organizational affiliations and board appointments including, United Way of Hartford, Hartford Hospital, American Red Cross, Hartford Economic Development Committee and the Governor's Small Business Advisory Council.
Nelson Carvajal - General Manager
Mr. Carvajal has been the General Manager of the MAT Garage since CPS initiated services in March 1997. His duties include the supervision of all daily parking operations at the garage including personnel, maintenance, security and customer relations. Mr. Carvajal has been instrumental in the on-going garage renovation projects. Mr. Carvajal is familiar with all requirements of effective cash management and revenue and access controls. He worked closely with the City of Hartford and the Hartford Parking Authority in the selection and installation of the Federal APD SCAN access and revenue control system at the MAT Garage. Mr. Carvajal is a resident of the City of Hartford. He holds a BS degree in engineering from the University of Cartegena in Columbia. He also attended Hartford State Technical College pursuing additional college courses in engineering. Prior to his CPS employment, Mr. Carvajal was Assistant Manager for UNICCO Services Company and supervised 80 employees at numerous work sites in and around Hartford. During the 1980’s Mr. Carvajal managed parking facilities in the southern Florida region for Imdemed Parking, Inc.
Estella Lopez - Controller
Ms. Lopez has over twenty-five years of experience in the administration of public agencies in Hartford, Connecticut. She currently serves as an Administrator for Hogar CREA International of CT, Inc., responsible for all accounting and administrative services for this non-profit organization. Ms. Lopez has been associated with CREA since 1992. Prior to this, she has worked with La Casa de Puerto Rico Hispanic Agency and the Urban League in Hartford in the field of administrative services. Ms. Lopez has extensive experience in all areas of accounting, bookkeeping and administrative services as it pertains to both private and public sector organizations. She currently serves as corporate secretary and Controller for Connecticut Parking Services; a minority owned parking management company located in Hartford. Ms. Lopez holds an Associates Degree in Data Processing Technology from Hartford State Technical College and has participated in numerous social services and financial related workshops. Ms. Lopez currently serves in a volunteer capacity as Treasurer and Acting Director of Latinos Against AIDS Agency, the only inner city program totally dedicated to AIDS prevention and education.
Robert H. Kliman - Consultant
Mr. Kliman's parking credentials include nearly thirty-five years experience in operational management and consulting. For over twenty years, Mr. Kliman was associated with Schwartz Parking, Inc., most recently in the capacity of President. Over this period of time, Mr. Kliman has enjoyed a career dealing in all aspects of parking and related services. During his fifteen-year tenure as a corporate executive, Mr. Kliman utilized his management, financial, operational and communicative skills in developing an organization that supervised and administered parking management services to a diverse client base. In 1991, Mr. Kliman developed SPI Consulting, a nationally recognized division that specialized in consulting services and provided site audits, operational analysis and property valuations. Mr. Kliman has extensive knowledge in all areas of parking equipment, including state-of-the-art revenue and access control devices and systems. In 1994, Mr. Kliman successfully negotiated the corporate buyout of SPI to a national parking company. After a transition period, Mr. Kliman ended his active involvement in operations and focused his attention to a private practice in consulting services. In 1997, Mr. Kliman joined Servus Management Corporation as Vice President responsible for business development. During his tenure at Servus, he initiated Servus Parking Company to provide specialize service to real estate clients who own or asset manage parking properties. Mr. Kliman has assisted Connecticut Parking Services since its inception in 1997, and has worked closely with Carlos Lopez and his staff in the development of CPS. In 2001, Mr. Kliman founded Kay Management Associates. KMA specializes in the management of multi-family and commercial properties. He continues to provide parking consulting services under KMA. Mr. Kliman holds a BS degree in Business Management from Fairleigh Dickinson University and an MBA in Finance from the University of Hartford. He is a licensed real estate salesperson in the State of Connecticut. Mr. Kliman was active in the National Parking Authority and served on its board of directors. Over the years he has been active in many business and charitable organizations in the Greater Hartford area.
